The PRESIDENTS CORNER

With the snow on the ground, I keep building anticipation for another great season of skiing. This last month was the most frustrating with rain or warm temperatures after a measurable snow. Not only here, but also out West and Europe having the same conditions. Our Boyne weekend trip had snow at just the right time. Club racing and fellowship with our members, having the usual great time with Michigan conditions. Thank God, were going to Snowbird, Utah for the next big western trip. It’s ranked number one in the United States for snowfall. Then the following month, Winter park, Colo. Our spring break trip should have plenty of snow in the Rockies by then. Racing at Timber Ridge is now extended to March 1st. The Adult Race League has to make up the first two weeks of no snow. Today it’s cold, snow on the ground, more snow is coming with sunny skies. Hope to see you on the slopes.

Going Skiing,

George Middleton

SEX and SKIING
Got your attention? -- Thought so.

Any article with that title will grab your attention, but to be honest, I don't want to write about it.
We are all inspired by some of the things we read, and Oprah's February magazine has an interesting article that I enjoyed.

Some of her readers were asked to comment on their lives in six words:
Life gives lemons but no juicer.
Still fit into high school earrings.
Mission accomplished-but will consider reincarnation.
I've made all the best mistakes.
Survived the divorce-learned to live.
Every problem has a creative solution.
Loving heart for sale-like new.
Forever entertained by the universe's humor.
Car totaled, life spared, forever grateful.
Skiing life's hills and wishing for mountains.

Here's your challenge, write your life in 6 words on the ski club's FaceBook page.
We'll publish in the next newsletter. Fun!

And lastly, a comment about our club.
We are comprised of many personalities and ages. Let's all embrace our differences and enjoy each other.
Laugh, Love, Ski

Timber Ridge Adult Race League 2012

Our BCSC Race Team had our first race after a two weeks delay. Registration of the team members had a lot of shuffling this year. Florida and medical reasons took some of our best skiers and we will miss them. We all have a love for the sport and competitive. Always hearing lots of cheering for our team members to do the best they can. Someone always gives suggestions and reminders for that good race. It’s truly, more about the fellowship and self-improvement, a night out of the house doing what we love. Our racers are silver, bronze or close to earning a metal in NASTAR. We will never have the fastest times, or make first place in the platinum group. We are shooting for first place in our group div. For several years our team has qualified to go to the Nationals, Hoping to keep that tradition going. The current team members: Jerry Tillmann, Renee Robinson, John Martin, Kal Perjesi, Steve Terranella, Nancy Julius and George Middleton on our first night of racing.  At the last minute Rick Visel had to drop out and we hope he can rejoin the team soon.

Exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Come join us this summer as we explore one of the most beautiful national lakeshores in our nation….and its right here in Michigan!  If you’ve never been to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area, you’re in for a treat!

Your trip chairs will be Mary Anne Terry and Betsy Watson.  Mary Anne is a seasoned hiker who has hiked every trail in this awesome park.    We can tailor our exploration to whatever the group would like to see and their level of activity.

The park stretches along 35 miles of the northern shoreline of Lake Michigan and includes many wonderful hiking trails, inland lakes and rivers, the famed Sleeping Bear Dune, the popular Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive and the Platt River Campground.

We are opening this trip to an unlimited number of people with any type of accommodation you would prefer by providing you with all the information needed to make your own personal reservation at the lodging of your choice (add Link here).    The trip chairs will be camping at the Platt River Campground   but there are several interesting motels and B&Bs in the area for those who would prefer a real bed at night.

So regardless of where you stay, come meet up with the group each morning for the day’s adventure in the park, picnics and sunsets!  We’ll be hiking many of the park’s trails to spectacular vistas of the Lake Michigan shoreline, steep dunes and the Manitou Islands.  The trip is designed so you can be with us any or all days of the trip.

Ø  Trip dates:   Friday through Sunday , August 17 – 19, 2012 or any portion thereof

Ø  Trip chairs:

Mary Anne Terry:   terry2071@att.net      Cell:  269-806-5302

                        Betsy Watson:        shastawat@gmail.com  Cell:  269-598-7850

IMPORTANT CAMPING NOTE:    If you are planning on camping in the national park, it is necessary to make your reservation EXACTLY 6 months to the day before your arrival.    Be ready to make your reservation online at EXACTLY 7 a.m. on  Friday morning February 16 (or whichever date you choose to arrive)  in order to ensure a spot.  The Platt River Campground is an extremely popular place and spots fill up within 5 – 10 minutes after the reservations open up.

Once you have your camping or motel reservation secured, let us know so we can add you to our trip communications!!  We will have a “pre” pre-trip meeting sometime in May to decide on specific activities, food coordination, etc.  then publish a final plan.  There will also be the regular pre-trip meeting a week or so prior to the trip.

We hope you can join us!!
