WINTER PARK RESORT-SPRING BREAK

MARCH 29-APRIL 5, 2025 RECAP

This year’s Winter Park trip was an intimate affair with 20 members attending and of these, 8 were first time BCSC members.  Everyone rallied at the Hi Country Haus Condominiums on Saturday, March 29th coming by planes, trains and automobiles.  People skied 4, 5 and even 6 days while we were there and the conditions were great for that time of year.  We even got a couple good powder days to enjoy mid-week.  For the most part, the temps were more like you’d see in the regular ski season instead of spring-like conditions that keep you guessing, which was a bonus too.

Just as we all got to our condos in our own way, we all showed up to the mountain by either shuttle or by car but I will say, even though there were only 20 of us, I saw our BCSC red flags constantly – we all seemed to be in the same places at the same times.  Great ski-minds think alike, I guess.  In addition to people breaking off to do some shopping downtown, hit restaurants and of course, hit the hot tub and pool, we had a Pizza Party in the Hi Country Haus’ Clubhouse that was just about perfect.  Most everyone hung out a couple hours after the pizza was gone comparing notes, vertical feet, top speeds and even number of hours on the mountain.  I skied my first continuous 8:50 am until nearly 4:20 pm full day on Thursday and it was glorious.  My son, my brother and I had to have been the last three to get off the mountain that day and we toasted our victorious day while we watched the hill sweep happen, waiting for our ride.  Of course, it had to be the same day as we picked for the Pizza Party so we were all barely on time for it.  Luckily, Nadene and MaryEllen helped Melinda pick up the pizzas and refreshments and everything was perfect and ready to go, thanks to their help.

Especially these last three years, it has been hard to make this trip happen (two years ago it didn’t) but I really hope the club can continue to get at least a small group out there annually moving forward.  The fact that it coincides with at least Battle Creek or Kalamazoo’s Spring Break (sometimes both) should make it a desirable trip for families with school-aged children.  Add to that the really affordable price-point (about $1,100 per person for 5-day lift pass & condo this year) and I think we have a good chance to keep this trip alive.
